Summary
As a result of Durham's Report, the oligarchy government of the Canadas was switched to a Representative and Responsible government. The new form of government is the basis of our Canadian government today. The Executive council became the cabinet. The legislative council lost their authority over laws and regulations. Eventually they became the senate. The unification of the two Canadas took place 1841 in the capital city, Montreal by Lord Sydenham. He had replaced lord Durham on the act of unification.
